A Normal Encounter with Difference
Organization: Grupo Dançando com a Diferença (GDD) and Associação Cultural Companhia Clara Andermatt (ACCCA)
Orientation: Henrique Amoedo and Clara Andermatt
"We have to rest temporarily from ourselves, looking at ourselves from afar and above and, from an artistic distance, laughing about us or crying about us: we have to discover the hero, as well as the fool, that resides in our passion for knowledge, we have to rejoice once in a while at our foolishness, so that we can continue rejoicing at our wisdom."
(Nietzsche)
The ACCCA and the Dancing with Difference Group have organized, since 2014, the Normal Encounter with Difference, an encounter guided by Henrique Amoedo and Clara Andermatt.
Each meeting brings together about 20 performers and creators with and without disabilities and aims to provide experiences, views and reflection on different forms of creation, expression and communication.
An intensive action with professionals, mainly from the dance area, but also from other artistic areas such as music, theater, video, performance and literature. It is not intended to have rules defined from the start, but to create space and time for waiting, for observation, to stimulate intuition and the unconscious.
This activity began in 2014 with Encounters in Lisbon, Acca Studio and in Madeira, Grupo Dançado com a Diferença. In 2015 the 3rd edition, in Viseu, in partnership with Teatro Viriato and in 2016 in Montemor-o-Novo in partnership with Espaço do Tempo.
In each edition of the Meeting a central theme is launched, on the first day, is presented and discussed in conference format, with special guests chosen according to the proposed theme and that guides the entire development of the Meeting.
The registrations are made by invitation of the organization, trying to involve in each Meeting, members of the local community. There is always a final result that is presented in an informal context. This project aims at the crossing of artists, theoreticians, creators and professional interpreters with and without disabilities in a laboratory of experimentation and observation, which in addition to providing a greater understanding of the other and his difference, awakens interests and discoveries for future artistic collaborations.
