Cegos - (Urban intervention in Funchal)

Dozens of executives, men and women, dressed properly, carrying bags, purses, cell phones and documents, walk slowly covered in clay and blindfolded, mixing with pedestrians and destabilizing the daily flow of the city center.

The performative action intends to provoke a different way of perceiving and experiencing everyday social devices, of thinking about the relationship between art and the market, and of visualizing the contemporary subject in the globalized era.

CEGOS aims to poetically intervene in the city and provoke a moment of reflection giving rise to different readings: the imprisonment and petrification of life through overwork, the automation of daily life, the ethical degeneration that has been established in the political, financial, legal and religious axis of society.

The visual proposal of the performance CEGOS makes a criticism of the massacring condition, characteristic of all kinds of corporate work that has as its main icon the suit and tie worn by men and the tailleur adopted by women in every big metropolis.

The title of the action is inspired by the painting "The Parable of the Blind", by Pieter Bruegel (1580), in which we see blind men leading blind men, each one trying to find some support to advance along the way.
